One-Day Implants (Same-Day Extraction & Placement)

A one-day implant means the damaged tooth is extracted and the implant is placed in the same appointment, rather than waiting months for the socket to heal. At Seoul E&D Dental Clinic in Sanbon, Gunpo, this is offered when CBCT imaging confirms enough healthy bone and no active infection around the tooth.
  • 5 min walk from Sanbon Station (Line 4)
  • Late hours Mon & Thu until 20:30
  • 3-step painless anesthesia system

What does "one-day implant" actually mean?

In a conventional sequence, a hopeless tooth is removed, the socket heals for several months, and only then is an implant placed. A one-day implant, also called immediate placement, combines the first two steps: the tooth comes out and the implant goes into the fresh socket during the same visit.

It is important to be clear about what "one day" refers to. It describes the surgery, not the whole treatment. The implant still needs time to fuse with the bone before a permanent crown is attached. Depending on stability, a temporary tooth may be possible in some front-tooth cases, but this is decided individually, never promised in advance.

Potential advantages

  • One surgical procedure and one recovery period instead of two.
  • Less total time without a tooth in that position.
  • The implant can help support the surrounding bone and gum shape soon after extraction.
  • Fewer appointments, which suits busy residents and patients who commute.

Who can have same-day extraction and placement?

Immediate placement works well when the walls of the socket are largely intact, there is solid bone beyond the root tip to anchor the implant, and the area is free of acute infection. Teeth that are fractured, have failed root canal treatment or cannot be restored are common reasons patients ask about this option.

It may not be suitable if:

  • There is a large abscess or significant bone loss around the tooth.
  • The socket wall facing the cheek is very thin or missing.
  • Gum disease elsewhere in the mouth is not yet under control; see our page on treating gum disease.
  • Upper back teeth sit very close to the sinus, in which case a sinus lift may be needed first.

When immediate placement is not advisable, a standard tooth extraction followed by healing, or extraction with socket grafting, is often the safer route. We would rather delay by a few months than risk the long-term result.

Step by step at E&D Dental

  1. Diagnosis. A low-dose 3D CBCT scan shows the root, surrounding bone and nearby anatomy. We confirm whether immediate placement is realistic and explain any alternatives.
  2. Planning. Where useful, the implant is planned digitally and a custom surgical guide is prepared so the implant can be placed in the ideal position within the socket.
  3. Anesthesia. Our 3-step painless anesthesia system starts with topical gel or gargle numbing, followed by Endo-Frost cold numbing of the injection point and a computer-controlled anesthesia device.
  4. Gentle extraction. The tooth is removed carefully to preserve the thin bone walls. The socket is cleaned thoroughly.
  5. Implant placement. The implant, which may be treated with our UV surface activator beforehand, is placed into the prepared socket. Gaps around it may be filled with graft material.
  6. Stability measurement. We record stability with AnyCheck to decide whether a temporary tooth can be attached or whether the site should heal undisturbed.

Healing and aftercare

Recovery is similar to a routine extraction. Expect some tenderness and possible swelling for a few days. Our TMJ physical therapy device, which supports cell regeneration and reduces pain and inflammation, can also be used after implant or extraction procedures to aid comfort.

  • Keep pressure off the implant: chew on the other side and choose soft foods.
  • If a temporary tooth was fitted, avoid biting into hard food with it.
  • Do not smoke; it is one of the main causes of poor integration.
  • Return for check-ups so we can review healing before the final crown.

Risks and honest limitations

Immediate implants carry the usual surgical risks such as infection, bleeding and swelling. Because the implant sits in a fresh socket, there is a slightly greater chance of gum recession at the front of the mouth, and the implant may fail to integrate if initial stability was low. That is why careful case selection matters more here than for any other implant technique.

Why Sanbon and Gunpo patients choose E&D Dental

  • Imaging, extraction, implant placement and stability testing are all done in-house.
  • Our dentists tell you plainly whether a same-day approach is appropriate or whether waiting is wiser.
  • Patients with blood pressure or other chronic conditions are monitored with a vital-sign monitor during surgery.
  • Evening appointments on Mondays and Thursdays and Saturday mornings help working residents.

To weigh the two approaches side by side, read one-day versus conventional implants. If a tooth is bothering you now, contact the clinic for an assessment; it is a short walk from Sanbon Station on Line 4.

Questions patients ask

Frequently asked questions

Will I leave with a new tooth on the same day?

Not always. The extraction and implant placement happen on the same day, but whether a temporary tooth can be attached depends on how stable the implant is. The permanent crown is fitted after the implant has bonded with the bone.

Is a one-day implant as strong as a conventional implant?

When the case is suitable and initial stability is good, immediate implants can perform comparably to delayed ones. The key is careful selection: if infection or bone loss is present, waiting for healing is usually the safer choice.

Can a one-day implant be done if my tooth is infected?

A minor, localized infection may sometimes be managed by thorough cleaning of the socket, but a large abscess or significant bone damage usually means extraction first and implant placement after healing.

How do I know if I qualify?

A clinical exam and a low-dose 3D CBCT scan at E&D Dental show the condition of the root and surrounding bone. Your dentist will explain whether same-day placement is realistic and what the alternatives are.

Does the procedure hurt?

It is done under local anesthesia with the clinic's 3-step painless anesthesia system, designed to minimize discomfort. Afterwards, soreness similar to a normal extraction is common for a few days.
